Forex Market is a Three Session Trading Market

On the forex trading market, traders enjoy the freedom of trading anytime, as this is open all round the clock. Traders can trade during the normal business hours, either after work or even at those odd timings.

Even through its open 24 hours, but the price actions are not always same and may sometimes shine and at other times slump.

The trading day brings in varying activities in different currency pairs. It is thus crucial to understand the chief trading sessions that can help a trader in predicting the activity over definite time durations.

The 24-hour forex market can thus be broken into three manageable trading sessions.

The three-session trading

The 24-hour accessibility may prove beneficial for traders, both individual as well as institutional, but as a coin has two sides, even this has certain drawbacks. Traders cannot remain glued to the screen all this time, which may lead to missed opportunities and even worse.

What can thus be done, is understanding that the market is typically volatile at some particular times and the trader can build his/her strategy accordingly.

The three trading sessions in the forex market is:

The Asian session (Tokyo), as the weekend ends, the markets in Asia is the first to witness action. Markets in Tokyo, trading from midnight until 6 am GMT, thus remain active during this time.

The other countries, which are active during this time, include Australia, China, New Zealand, and Russia, among many more.

Considering the scattered nature, the Asian hours are best described from 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. GMT.

European Session (London), just before the trading session in Asia is about to end, the session in Europe begins. This time zone is very dense and entails some of the major financial markets that stand as chief in FX.

London, leading the chart, the official business hours here runs from 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. GMT. Characteristically, the market session runs from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. GMT.

North American Session (New York), by the time this starts, markets in Asia are closed and its half way for European session.

New York dominates the market, which defines the high volatility and participation. This begins at noon GMT. Typically, the session terminates at 8 pm GMT, after which the North American session closes.
